1. Following up With Prospective Employers
Many college graduates or soon to be college graduates in San Marcos are beginning the long and
sometimes frustrating process of sending out job applications to prospective employers. Whether these
students have graduated and earned their degree in business management in San Marcos or from a
nursing administration program in San Marcos, the next step in finding a job is the application process.
But one major inclusion to applying for any job in any
industry should be the art of following up. Filling out an
application and submitting it to the prospective employer
is a relatively simple and straight forward event, however
knowing how to follow up on that application can make
the difference between landing the job and continuing the
search.
Follow up
Following up on a request for an application, an actual application submission, or even following up on
an interview with the prospective employer will all be vital steps to landing the job. Following up with
the potential employer shows that the applicant is goal oriented and driven to accomplish those things
they set out to accomplish.
Some may see following up with a company during their application process as an annoyance to the
company and therefore of detrimental use to them. However, employers who were interviewed on this
topic have said that applicants who follow up regularly while undergoing the recruiting process are
typically the ones who get hired due to the fact that the act of following up shows the employer that the
applicant cares about receiving the job, that they want to work at the company, and that the applicant is
willing to work to receive what they desire.
All of these qualities are what hiring officials are looking for in the prospective employees they consider.
So following up with the company is important for the applicant, but what is the best way for an
applicant to go about it?
Contact right away
The first tip to correctly following up on an application with a company is for the applicant to contact the
company in the right way. Business and other companies are places of professional work which means
that any follow ups from the applicant to those businesses should be done in a highly professional
manor.
2. This may mean a phone call to a designated number as directed by
the company, but more often the appropriate way to follow up with
an application is through email. In either situation, an applicant
should remain professional in their word choice and voice.
Professional follow up emails are short, to the point, and courteous
in their nature. An applicant may wish to briefly thank the reader
for the companies consideration of the applicant for the open
position, state what about the job interested them specifically, and then close the email or phone call
with a statement that eludes to the company contacting the applicant such as “I look forward to hearing
from you soon.”
One should not be afraid of following up in the above manor several times throughout the application
process. By correctly following up throughout the application process, an applicant will be able to set
themselves apart from others, show their determination and interest in the position, and eventually be
able to land a quality position at a successful company or organization.
