1. In the slides following, you will be able to see the
true effects of these socio-economic influences on
a nation wide scale. Simply showing the most obese
states wouldn’t be enough though, I needed to present
the information in a progressive format, showing how
these influences can compound and put certain citizens
at a massive disadvantage.
What do you think will happen, if I show the poorest
States, then the least educated, and then most
religious?

2. Basic, yet striking. The 10 most obese states are primarily in the “deep south”. How can this
be explained through socio-economic factors such as god, money and education? What on
earth do any of those things have to do with obesity? Let me show you the light my friends…

3. Poorest States
Here we can see those same very obese states, while putting an overlay of the poorest states
in the US on the same map. Revealing that money is also affecting the obesity rates within
that states. Is it that they can’t afford healthy food?

Least Educated States
Again, these obese states are not only the poorest in the nation, but also the least educated.
Which can bring some questions, such as, are they dumb and there fore make poor eating
choices? Or are they also only poorly educated because they are poor? Is that an excuse?

Here we can observe the third socio-economic influence taking its toll on the most religious
states in the country, to no surprise it lands squarely on the shoulders of those states in the
deep south. For so having so many strong religious people, they seem to be the most gluttonous.

6. Here is a view of the United States that sheds a lot of light on the states and regions who
are facing the brunt of this epidemic. Did you expect this? That New England and the
Western US would be dramatically healthier and less obese than the deep south?
