This is the blog presentation of Derrick Burrell about Harley Davidson's recall on the ABS-equipped 2014 Touring models. These were recalled twice this past year due to a defect with the brake line. Derrick Burrell is a big fan of Harley Davidson because of their loyalty to their customers. Harley Davidson is having all models with this defect fixed free of cost due to their mistake.
2. General Motors isn’t the only
corporation struggling with
recalls. According to an
article recently completed by
Motorcycle USA, Harley
Davidson has been forced to
recall its ABS-equipped 2014
Touring models.
3. The article details the report
filed by the corporation with the
National Highway Traffic Safety
Association. An investigation
into the issue began on the
eleventh of September of last
year, shortly after a pinched
brake line was spotted in a police
motorcycle being set up for
service.
4. This brake line was located
under the rear fuel tank
mounting bracket. By the
eighth of October, Harley
Davidson had determined that
six warranty claims were tied
to the pinched brake line; only
one involved a crash and no
injuries were reported.
5. Within a week, the
corporation had resolved the
issue, adding the installation
of an additional cable strap to
the final production at the
York facility; this cable strap
would keep the brake line
from pinching.
6. By the eleventh of November,
the investigation was
considered resolved and closed.
However, recently the issue
was reopened, as another
pinched brake line was
discovered several inches
forward from the one located
by the rear fuel tank.
7. The pinching of this brake line
lies between the fuel tank and
frame; if it becomes pinched, it
can cause the front wheel to
lock up. Once again, another
cable strap was added to
assembly to insure the line
remains intact.
8. Thus far, thirty-nine warranty
claims have been attributed to
the issue; four crashes are tied
to the problem, with only one
minor injury suffered.
9. The recall on the brake line
affects sixty six thousand four
hundred and twenty one units of
the 2014 Touring models. Harley
Davidson has agreed to send out
notifications of the issue to all
owners of the product.
10. The notifications will indicate
that all bikes should be brought
into dealers to be checked; if
repairs are found to be
necessary, the brake lines will
be replaced at no charge.
11. The extra cable straps will be
installed in every bike brought
into dealers, as a means of
precaution against future
pinching on the line.
