The graphic designers of Troy created a very effective theatrical poster; this would’ve been expecting as it was a much
anticipated Hollywood blockbuster. In the foreground we see Eric Bana clashing swords with Brad Pitt. This could be seen
as part of the proairetic code as we can see props that more than definitely signal action. The person he is clashing
swords with is his nemesis in the movie and eventually proves to be his downfall. In several aspects we can see that
these two are opposites. Their character; Hector (Eric Bana) - loyal to his nation, warm, caring, level headed. Whilst
Achilles (Brad Pitt)- is only in war for his own ego, doesn’t serve his king & doesn’t have solid priorities. Even in costume
alone, Hector has neat, polished golden armour, whilst Hector wears black leather; black being connoted with the bad
guy, evil etc. The two characters are even opposites in terms of hair colour; Bana being the brunette, whilst Pitt is the
blonde.
Underneath the clash of swords between the two sides, we see Paris & Helen stood together as a couple. This not only
tells the audience that they are a couple, but the fact that they are underneath the two swords signifies that they are the
cause of the war; the audience may ask ‘Are they fighting for Helen? Or the death of Paris? Below them is the silhouette
of Achilles, sword up ready for battle. This could also be linked to the proairetic code. As this film is a Hollywood
blockbuster it is important that they draw some of the audience in off their big names. They have in gold the names of
the three biggest stars. Also in the background in olden font there are several key words that link to some of the themes
in this movie, they are tiled together so they are hard to distinguish.
In the bottom right corner there are the heads of several soldiers marching to battle this puts no doubt to the audience
that this is a war film.
