Poorly developed health infrastructure : 1 PHC / 100.000 to 200.000 pop
What do we do in Bihar ?
We support 23/38 districts for leprosy and 15/38 districts for TB
and have an office in Patna.
1. Staff capacity building for leprosy and TB (quality services).
Cooperation with private sector (pilot project).
2. RCS centre in D-o-S
3. Own MDR-TB lab in Dharbanga
4. Fill vacant essential posts (lab technicians, physiotherapists,
supervisors)
What do we do in Bihar ?
5. Involve local NGOs in L and TB control (Civil Society
Partnership).
6. Supply of laboratory materials, transport of drugs (state →
district)
7. Food supplement to poor TB patients and all MDR-TB patients
in selected districts (pilot).
8. Chantiers : construction of health centres, wards, houses for
patients, etc…
9. Total budget for Bihar (2015) : 574.000 €
(excl. Chantiers)
Role of DF teams in Bihar
Leprosy control:
 capacity building of the health staff,
 involve the community (reference of suspects, self-care, support to poor patients)
 update deformity register, identify and refer patients for RCS and/or economic
support.
Tuberculosis control :
 capacity building of health staff,
 involvement of the community,
 monitor all MDR-TB cases at least 1x/2 months and identify complications, supply
food, supply lab materials and reagents …

Endowment prize exam for final year MBBS students: 152 students/10 medical collages
CME on leprosy was organised for Dermatologists and 3 medical collages in Karnataka
CME on latest updates was organised for DFIT technical staff

  • 57. What do we do in Bihar ? We support 23/38 districts for leprosy and 15/38 districts for TB and have an office in Patna. 1. Staff capacity building for leprosy and TB (quality services). Cooperation with private sector (pilot project). 2. RCS centre in D-o-S 3. Own MDR-TB lab in Dharbanga 4. Fill vacant essential posts (lab technicians, physiotherapists, supervisors)
