1. A big step by Crimea
A big revolution is going ahead in Crimea with an international diplomatic
crisis that ensued in Ukraine after the end of the government of Viktor Yanukovych
because of the Euromaidán protests. These protests are organized to support the
reapprochement Ukraine to the European Union, which was rejected by some pro
Russian communities of the southeastern part of the country, composed mostly of ethnic
Russians and Russian-speaking Ukrainians.
The Republic of Crimea made a referendum to decide if they would join
Russia or not, and in which was showed that 96% of the voters were in favor to be part
of the Russian Federation. Sergei Neverov, Prime minister of Russia (2014) expressed
that “Results of the referendum in Crimea clearly showed that residents of Crimea see
their future only as part of Russia”.
Otherwise the results clearly showed that most of the people want to join
Russia, there are some people that think that the process was not legal. The Us
president, Barack Obama (2014) stated “ that Crimea´s vote “ would never be
recognized” by the United States, as he and other US officials warned Moscow against
making further military moves toward southern and eastern Ukraine.
I strongly believe that if Crimea wants to join Russia, they have all the rights
to do it, and the others countries like The United States must not take place in things
that are just for Crimeans. I hope Crimea can make valid its opinion and finally join
Russia as they have showed they want to.
