2. Mission Poland
The month of February had a delegation of 20 companies and 5 regions
coming from Eastern Poland to scout for opportunities in India for
partnerships and to attract FDI from India into Poland in the IT/ITES sector.
The mission was organized by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment
Agency and they were one of the country sponsors at the Nasscom
Leadership Summit 2011 that took place in Mumbai. After 3 days in Mumbai
the mission flew down to Bangalore where, in partnership with IBI Consulting
B2B meetings were organized with companies in the ICT sector. The meeting
was addressed by Mr. Ashok Kumar Manoli – Principal Secretary to
Government for IT, His Excellency Piotr Klodkowski- Ambassador of Poland to
India and Mr. Robert Seges – Head, Services at Polish Information & Foreign
Investment Agency.
During a brief conversation with Mr. Robert Seges on why India was a
strategic partner for Poland, the strength of services oriented sector in India
came out as a key distinguisher. China the other rising giant in Asia is
traditionally known for its manufacturing & mass production capabilities,
where as India with her high English language proficiency has stood out as a
global service provider offering modern services of International standards to
countries worldwide, said Mr. Seges. He also commented that, the economic
crisis had shifted the pendulum in the recent times from the American market
to the European market as a strategic location for foreign direct investment.
Hence one of the key agendas of the mission was also to showcase Easter
Poland as an attractive location for FDI in Europe. They were keen at
supporting small and medium enterprises from India to successfully set up
operations in Poland. The Polish companies that were part of the mission
were looking at partnership opportunities in the IT, BPO & KPO space. In spite
of a lower turn out in the number of Indian companies at the B2B event in
Bangalore, most of the Polish companies had very useful meetings which
were very encouraging.
The experience of the mission was overall highly positive and they are
committed to coming back to India perhaps with a bigger delegation
remarked Mr. Seges.
