The Los Angeles Lakers have as many championships as their great rival,
the Boston Celtics. They’ve had two dynasties, one in the 80s under the
mercurial Pat Riley, and another in the early 2000s under former Chicago
Bulls coach, Phil Jackson. They have had amazing line-ups before, and
we’re here to discuss the two greatest teams, who are on top of the
mountain.

1986-1987
This Laker team led by the incomparable Magic Johnson finished the
regular season with a 65-17 record. The best in the NBA. Pound-for-
pound, not only was this one of the best Laker teams in history, it was also
one of the all-time greatest teams in the NBA. It was the pinnacle of the
“Showtime” Lakers, a team so overwhelmingly quick, with the likes of
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, and Byron Scott complementing
Johnson’s sublime play. They were quick, athletic, and uncompromising.
They closed out the season in the third and final battle against their age-
old rivals, the Boston Celtics.

2000-2001
In the 2000-2001 season, the Lakers finished with a 56-26 win-loss record
behind a monstrous season by Shaquille O’Neal, and Kobe Bryant’s stellar
play. Though the Lakers didn’t finish first in the league after the regular
season, their playoff run was nothing short of dominant, reflecting Shaq’s
play all season. They swept the Trail Blazers, the Kings, the top-seeded
Spurs, and lost only a single game to Allen Iverson and the 76ers.
