Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) is a group of problems that occur in a
newborn who was exposed to drugs in the womb.

Symptoms often begin within 1 to 3 days, but may take up to a week to
appear.

6. Lily’s Place Recovery
Once symptoms of withdrawal are noticed in a newborn, he or she is then
scored for a variety of behaviors and responses.
Once diagnosed with NAS, care and treatment begins and the withdrawal
process typically takes 4-6 weeks
Some babies with severe symptoms need medicines such as methadone and
morphine to treat withdrawal symptoms.
When the baby is off of medicine for 72 hours, the primary caregivers will be
invited to stay the night and receive 24-48 hours of hands on training in the
care of their baby before going home.
