Man guilty of severely
beating son with belt
Patrick O’Shea
Times Staff
BEAVER — An Ambridge man
has been found guilty by a
Beaver County jury of beating
his toddler son so badly with a
leather belt that the boy might
have suffered permanent dam-
age.
Dennis Kahlil Miller, 21, a
Philadelphia native who had
been in Ambridge for about a
month at the time of the July 29,
2009, incident, was found guilty
Wednesday of aggravated
assault, endangering the welfare
of a child, reckless endanger-
ment and simple assault. A sen-
tencing date was not yet been
set.
During court testimony,
authorities described the
injuries at the time to Damir
Miller, now 4, as a swollen brain,
broken nose, fat lip and cuts and
bruises on nearly every part of
his body. Doctors said the young-
ster developed a seizure disor-
der and will require long-term
treatment. The boy lives with his
mother, Asa Davis, in Philadel-
phia.
When Ambridge police were
called to 300 Fourth Ave., Apart-
ment 404, to assist the boy, who
was foaming at the mouth and
unconscious, officers said Miller
initially tried to blame Davis.
Miller told police he had recent-
ly returned from Philadelphia
with his son, who had been on a
weekend visit with his mother.
But police learned Davis had
been in a hospital after undergo-
ing emergency gall bladder sur-
gery at the time. When confront-
ed, Miller admitted to “whip-
ping” his son, but denied caus-
ing any other injuries, according
to court documents. Police were
able to match many of the
injuries with Miller’s belt.
Officials testified they believe
Miller also violently shook the
boy.

So, who cares if a couple of cows are
running around in Brighton Township,
right? Anyone traveling I-376 through
the area might care, as do police — who
can’t seem to catch the beasts.

BRIGHTON TWP. — Two
unclaimed roaming cows are
causing trouble in Brighton
Township, and that’s no bull.
Brighton Police Chief Howard
Blinn said Thursday that the
black-and-white cows have occa-
sionally been seen in fields off
Sebring Road and Mudlick Hol-
low Road over the last month,
but they’ve now taken to enter-
ing eastbound Interstate 376
between the Brighton and Van-
port Township exits.
“When I heard about that,
that’s when I said we’ve got to do
something,” said Blinn, who
fears that a driver could be
killed in a collision with one of
the cows.
Blinn said the cows were last
seen on I-376 Tuesday night and
they were seen again in a field
off Mudlick Hollow Road
around noon Thursday.
Nobody has claimed the cows,
and officers have been unable
to tell whether they are wearing
any tags, said Blinn. “You can’t
get close to them,” he said.
“They take off running.”
Initially, the cows were seen
several times in a field off
Sebring Road near Tuscarawas
Road, but they were always
gone by the time officers
arrived.
Then, township police started
receiving reports about the
cows being on Sebring Road
and Mudlick Hollow Road.
Fields along both roads slope
down to a creek near eastbound
I-376.
Blinn said Thursday that
