Question 5
What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
By Stephanie, Rachel and Miatta
Year 12 Media Studies
2. What technology did you use
to research/plan your
product?
The technology I used to research and plan
my project was the internet which forms
the broadcast network for example
websites including: YouTube, IMBD, Film
Institute Website, Wikipedia and the British
Board of Film classification website. All of
these media platforms helped me to
develop my research skills into crafting my
Media Main Task product.
3. What technology did you use to
produce(i.e. film) your project? (Why is
HD better than normal digital?
The technology I used to produce my
project was Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Da
Font, YouTube to source appropriate
music and sound effects and a digital
camera. HD is better than normal digital
because it is higher quality, the density of
the megapixels is greater and therefore
greater clarity of the images and visuals is
obtained for the benefit and experience
of the audience.
4. Why are advantages to using
digital video instead of celluloid?
The advantages of digital video over celluloid,
there is less chance of deterioration of the
images over time due to storage conditions.
Easier to share between different platforms and
devices i.e. DVD, Memory Sticks, External Hard
Drives and Smart Phones, easier to upload to
social media networks e.g. Facebook and
YouTube. Digital technology leads itself to
hyperlink for presentations and emails.
Compression of digital files saves storage space
on digital devices and platforms, digital
technology is more effective to apply editing
techniques and special effects i.e. CGI.
5. What technology did you use in post-
production (i.e. the editing)? Why is it
easier than manual editing?
In the editing stage of production I used Final Cut
Pro which is a non-linear video editing software.
The software allowed me to log and transfer my
video onto a hard drive (internal and external),
where it allowed me to edit, process, and
output to YouTube and a wide variety of other
formats. This digital technique is far easier and
faster than manual editing techniques because
the outcome looked more professional and
appealing.
