4. Introduction Of Green Buildings
An inventive and resource-conserving method of construction known as "green building
construction" not only produces structures but also promotes healthier environments while
reducing their negative effects on the surrounding ecosystem. This environmentally friendly
approach covers every stage of a building's lifespan, from conception and design through
construction, use, maintenance, renovation, and even eventual demolition.
Throughout the building lifecycle, green buildings incorporate practices that are resource
and environmentally conscious. The idea of "green buildings" aims to completely reduce any
negative effects while maximizing any beneficial effects a building has on both its
surrounding environment and its human occupants.
In order to support the building's energy requirements and produce a healthy built
environment, green buildings successfully integrate renewable and low-carbon
technologies into their planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance
processes.
5. IMPORTANCE
Green buildings play a pivotal role in mitigating the impact of urban development
on both human well-being and the natural environment by employing energy,
water, and resources efficiently.
Safeguarding occupant health and bolstering workforce productivity
Diminishing waste, pollution, and ecological deterioration
Remarkably, structures that adhere to green principles, such as those certified
under the LEED framework, offer a global remedy for cities, communities, and
neighborhoods. While the concrete advantages might not be immediately apparent
to tenants or visitors, the incorporation of sustainable design, construction, and
operational practices within these structures effectively curbs carbon emissions,
energy usage, and waste. Moreover, these buildings prioritize water conservation,
utilize safer materials, and minimize exposure to harmful substances.
6. CHALLENGES IN MAKING GREEN BUILDING
High Initial Investment: While green architecture is cost-effective in the long term, the
initial construction cost can be prohibitive for some due to the incorporation of eco-
friendly technologies and materials.
Availability of Sustainable Materials: The scarcity of green construction materials
globally can impact cost and construction timelines, as they might need to be sourced
from distant locations.
Limited Sustainable Technologies: The newness of sustainable technologies and their
varied capacities can make selection and implementation complex and expensive.
Skilled Workers Shortage: Finding skilled workers with expertise in green building
practices is challenging due to the relative novelty of the field.
Location Constraints: Green buildings are best suited for sunny regions due to their
reliance on solar energy. Climate conditions and sunny days should be considered for
optimal performance.
Despite the numerous benefits of green architecture, challenges persist, including:

Success Depends on the Location
8. IMPORTANT GREEN BUILDINGS
The building utilizes low-energy materials,
minimizing its carbon footprint. 90% of occupied
spaces enjoy natural daylight. Renewable
energy-powered LED street lighting on the
exterior cuts total power usage by 25%. The
ventilation system, equipped with jet fans,
reduces energy consumption by 50% by
efficiently refreshing the air.

9. 2. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad
The architecture of the airport is built to
conserve natural resources and use less
water and electricity. There is a 273-hectare
green belt with numerous vegetation on the
airport campus. RGIA has achieved energy
savings of around 3.97 million kWh and a
3331-ton reduction in carbon emissions
during the past two years.
10. 3. Infosys Limited, Mysore
This green building is situated in the city of
palaces, and is the third Infosys building to receive
a Platinum rating, bringing the total size of
Platinum-certified buildings at Infosys to 780,000
square feet. The five-story building was
constructed with a holistic approach to
sustainability in mind, paying particular attention
to five critical areas: sustainable site development,
water conservation, energy efficiency, material
choice, and indoor environmental quality. There is
a 40% reduction in energy consumption due to
intelligent mechanisms and effective machinery.
11. EFFICIENCY OF GREEN BUILDINGS
Better air quality and ventilation systems, enough natural light, and access to fresh
water are all expected in green buildings. Reduced energy and water usage are further
benefits. Water reductions range from 30% to 50% while energy savings are between
20% and 30%. Energy management, clean energy, and energy efficiency must be
integrated throughout the whole infrastructure value chain, from the acquisition of raw
materials to construction and certification.
Due to the demand for sustainability, the market for eco-friendly building materials is
fast growing. Through techniques like household treatment plants, these structures
regulate variables including solar radiation, temperature, energy efficiency, and water
conservation to maximize living circumstances. Reducing the environmental impact of
new projects is the main goal of green buildings. Reducing energy usage and emissions
is the means of achieving this objective. In essence, energy efficiency is what is meant by
sustainability.
12. SOLUTION FOR GREEN HILLS
They must be installed in layers, each of which serves a different purpose, in order to
avoid damaging the building's structure. This means they must have at least three
layers: an anti-rooting layer, a draining layer that allows water to pass but keeps the
earth out, and an impermeable and insulating layer that shields the roof from
damage.
They can occasionally be constructed with a slope to improve drainage, although
this makes it difficult for the soil to stay moist.
Depending on the type of vegetation and care they entail, they might be extensive or
intensive. While the extensive ones hardly ever need to be cared for annually even if
they are typically not, the intense ones are more like ordinary or vegetable gardens
and require higher maintenance.
