2. Helmut Newton -About the Photographer Why have I chosen this photographer? Helmut Newton had an incredibly hard life, which is why I have strongly decided to base my assignment around his work. Newton was born in Germany in 1920. He was from a Jewish descent, and the oppression of the Jews became incredibly brutal on his family; his father lost his job, and at the age of 18 – the Newton family were forced to move to Singapore, where he later became an Australian citizen. This is where he discovered his first job in the photography field, and the love of the topic. Later in his life, he became an extensive fashion and portrait photographer for Vogue.
3. Helmut Newton -His work I think Helmut’s work contrasts his childhood dramatically. Escaping from the historical events of the Nazis would have been incredibly hard for the 18-year-old boy; especially immigrating to a completely different country and having to learn a new language. Newton’s work evolves mostly around excessive nudity and powerful, glamorous women.
