Georgia O'Keeffe
Georgia O’Keeffe was one of the most famous female artists of her time and her work is
still inspiring, influencing, and remembered for those reasons to this day! Starting at a very
young age O’Keeffe was always passionate about her work “I'm frightened all the time. But I
never let it stop me. Never!” ― ​Georgia O'Keeffe​. Georgia O’Keeffe took her creativity with
her in her adulthood. O’Keeffe may be dead but she will always be remembered for her greatest
accomplishments and unique paintings. Georgia O’Keeffe was an inspiring women who will
always be remembered.
Even when Georgia O’Keeffe was very young she had always been passionate about her
works and paintings as she says ​“Colors and shapes make a more definite statement than
words.”

her mother. Later O’Keeffe’s mother gave her a more creative type of education, art lessons
when Georgia was 12. By Eighth Grade O’Keeffe was determined to become an artist. Later in
1901, O’Keeffe attended a formal high school education at Sacred Heart Academy. There she
was praised for her outstanding work and was presented with a medal of improvement in Art.
Then she was inspired to look closely at flowers which O’Keeffe feel in love with. ​“Nobody sees
a flower ­ really ­ it is so small it takes time ­ we haven't time ­ and to see takes time, like to have
a friend takes time.”

2. As Georgia O’Keeffe grew up her creative interest remained very valuable and important
to her. For the first time O’Keeffe’s work was displayed by the popular photographer, Alfred
Stieglitz. Georgia married in 1924 but after her husband's death in 1946 she moved to New
Mexico. The area’s rough landscape inspired many of her works such as Black Cross, New
Mexico, 1929 and Cow's Skull with Calico Roses, 1931. Because of her works of Northern New
Mexico that area today is called “O'Keeffe Country.” Later In her life O’Keefe earned several
achievement medal including, The Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1984 and The National
Medal of Arts in 1985. O’Keeffe was mostly famous for her paintings but with the assistance of
Juan Hamilton, she created a few pottery piece and watercolors. Though O’Keeffe was growing
old she kept her sense of creativity and even got recognized for it.
Sadly Georgia O’Keeffe died on March 6, 1986 but in her 98 years of life she
accomplished and achieved many wonderful things. She now has a museum about her in New
Mexico. O’Keeffe had completed many accomplishments throughout her life including creating
over 200 painting of flowers. Calla Lily was one of her most magnificent paintings that sold for
25,000 dollars which was a record for a painting sold by an alive American Artist during that
time. O’Keefe was very dedicated to her work she would commonly create a series of paintings
that focused on one subject over a period of time these works would sometimes take decades to
finish. O’Keefe received an extraordinary opportunity, she would get to display her work at The
Museum of Modern Art in New York. This was the first opportunity for a woman to show her
art work from a museum. Though O’Keefe has passed away her memories and her art will stay
alive for generations to come.

3. Georgia O’Keeffe was alway passionate about all her work. Even in her childhood she
was a determine young artist. She kept her creativity with her all the way till the day she died.
O'Keeffe completed, achieved, and accomplished so many thing throughout her life. Georgia
O’Keeffe was an inspiration to the people during her time and now.
