3. WHAT IS THE PRINTER
• An external hardware device responsible for taking computer data
and generating a hard copy of that data.
• Printers are one of the most commonly used peripherals and they
print text and still images on the paper.
•The printer is computer output device that accepts text and graphic as
input, and prints or illustrations on paper as a hard copy in the form of
documents
.

4. TYPES OF PRINTER
• Printers can fall into two categories
- Impact printer
It produces text and images when tiny wire pins on print
head strike the ink ribbon by physically contacting the paper
Ex- Dot matrix printer, line printer, daisy wheel printer, band
printer
- Non-impact printer
It produces text and graphics on paper without
actually striking the paper
Ex- inkjet printer, laser printer, Thermal printer

5. Impact printer
• An impact printer creates an image by using pins or hammers to press
an inked ribbon against the paper
• Simplest impact printer is a type writer which user small hammers
embossed with characters or shapes
Dot matrix printer
• Dot matrix printers are commonly used in workplaces where physical
impact with paper is important.
• A dot matrix printer creates an image by using a mechanism called a
print head, which contains a cluster or Metrix of short pins
• The more pins that a print heard contains, the higher the resolution
of the printer’s resolution

7. Line printers

8. Daisy wheel printer
• Daisy wheel printing is an impact printing technology invented in
1970 by Andrew Gabor at Diablo Data Systems. It uses interchangeable
pre-formed type elements, each with typically 96 glyphs, to generate
high-quality output comparable to premium typewriters such as
the IBM Electric, but two to three times faster
•. Daisy wheel printing was used in electronic typewriters, word
processors and computers from 1972. The daisy wheel is so named
because of its resemblance to the daisy flower.

9. Band printer
• A band printer features a rotating band embossed with alphanumeric

10. Non-impact printer

• Color ink jet printers have 4 ink nozzles i-e Cyan(blue), Magenta(red),
yellow and Black
•The colors are sometimes referred as CMYK

14. Thermal printer
• A thermal printer is a printer that makes use of heat in order to
