Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer, philosopher, mathematician and physicist who lived from 1564 to 1642. He made many important contributions to science through his observations with one of the first telescopes, which supported the Copernican view that the Earth and planets revolve around the Sun. Galileo's work greatly advanced the scientific revolution.
