BROWSER
Internet Explorer (IE)
  A graphical web browser designed and
 develop by Microsoft Corporation. It is
 the most important browser used by
 more than 60% of worldwide users.
  Internet Explorer was released in August
 16, 1995 as a part of Microsoft Plus.
  Windows 95 and Internet Explorer 8 was
 released March 19, 2009
There are other versions of IE for other
operating system environment such as
IE Mobile, IE for Mac and IE for UNIX.
 Internet Explorer can open and view a
wide range of web pages and its
supports many of the available web
standards set by W3C (World Wide Web
Construction).
 Internet Explorer uses the Trident
layout engine.
Mozilla Firefox
 A free and open source web browser
downloadable                      from
www.mozilla.com/firefox running on
Gecko layout engine.
 Developed by Mozilla Corporation.
 This web browser is the second most
popular web browser and its
acceptance is increasing because it
supports and implements the latest
web standards set by W3C.
Firefox 1 was released last November
9, 2004 and the latest version Firefox
3.5 was released last June 2009 and
several updates have been released to
improve the version.
Safari
  A web browser for the Mac operating
 system developed and designed by
 Apple Inc. using the WebKit (based on
 KHTML) engine.
  Safari 1 was released in June 23, 2003
 and the latest version Safari 4 was
 released last June 8, 2009.
Safari is the third most popular web
browser with a share of just over 4% of
the worldwide users as September
2009.
 It is a native browser for the popular
iPhone and it has also released Safari
for Windows which supports Windows
XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Safari also supports majority of the
web standards set by W3C allowing it to
open and view majority of the sites.
Google Chrome
  Very new web browser from Google
 Inc. Creator of the most popular engine
 Google.
  Released to public last December 11,
 2008 and the latest version 3 was
 released September 15, 2009.
This search engine is now the fourth
most popular web browser.
 Google Chrome version 3 features
supports for HTML 5 video and audio
faster web viewing speed.
 This browser is based on the WebKit
engine
Opera
  Fifth most popular web site as of
 September 2009 with a share of just
 1.5% of the web browser usage.
  First released in 1996 and latest version
 opera 10 was released last June 16,
 2009.
  Internet suite which includes phishing
 and malware protection and it
 downloadable free for personal
It can also operate on several
operating systems including Microsoft
Windows , Mac OS and Linux.
 Opera’s strength in terms of usage is in
mobile applications such as mobile
phones and smart phones.
 It is also available for gaming gadgets
Nintendo DS and Wii.
Netscape
  Most popular web browser in the
 1990’s and its development has been
 stopped by its owner AOL (American
 Online)   who     bought     Netscape
 Communications Corporation.
  The last version was released was
 Netscape Navigator n9 last May 1, 2007
Legacy of Netscape is that it is the base
code for Mozilla Firefox and partly in
Google Chrome
 It was also responsible for the
development and instruction of
Javascript; a web programing language
to enhance web content.
Flock
  Is a new web browser that supports
 Microsoft windows, Mac OS X and Linux
 operating system is based on Mozilla’s
 Firefox codebase.
  It is one that supports social
 networking and Web 2.0 facilities and
 services including Facebook, MySpace,
 Twitter, YouTube and many others.
