Title:
“Adventures Of A Visiting Professor!”
Audience:
Math 9–12 + College
Description:
Hello and welcome to LIMAÇON 2019! Thank you for coming to my presentation.
Please allow me to introduce myself. I have taught all levels of Mathematics at
Baldwin Senior High school for 35 years and Nassau Community College for 25
years. The way I teach math has evolved greatly in recent years. I have “flipped the
classroom” and I am doing a lot more “whiteboarding” in class, for instance. Also,
I've been “smartboarding” and “screencasting” for at least 10 years sharing
SmartNotes and mp4s with students on Google Classroom, BlogSpot and YouTube.
I have always been in the forefront when it comes to adopting new and effective
technologies for use inside and outside of my mathematics classroom. In fact, I was
one of the first to promote the use of Graphing Calculators in all Math and Science
classes. I am here today to tell you that we are in the midst of another revolution in
computing technology. These new computing environments include everything from
Computer Algebra Systems and programming languages to Super Computers and
Scientific Computing in the cloud using GCP and AWS!
Today I will speak about how I use SAGE instead of a Graphing Calculator in
Calculus class. Let me show you how I use a Computer Algebra System, such as
SAGE, to teach the High School and College Math curricula.
Sincerely,
A. Jorge García
