Untitled instrument kunsthaus graz
At an exhibition of Elisabeth Penker's work at the HTTP Gallery, she presented a sound installation and performed on a geometric wooden instrument. Her work explores rhythm and musicality through rearranging phonetic units of language. Her sound installation breaks down the words "Die Bildhauerin" into linguistic elements to form a minimal composition. On opening night, she performed on her Sonic Structure instrument, which amplifies any sounds made on its wooden surface through microphones. Her work is inspired by experiments with noise and sound by early 20th century artists like Luigi Russolo.

Elisabeth Penker developed an audio piece called "Poetics of Dead Space" to guide visitors through the Kunsthaus Graz exhibition PROTECTIONS. Elisabeth Penker, “Hanging Chairs”, 2009 Compressed Cedar, Wooden-dowells, Gallery Chair (Galerie nächst St. Stephan) Acrylic Paint 100 x 182,5 x 22 cm view: Galerie nächst St.Stephan / Rosemarie Schwarzwälder (Log-In), Vienna, 2010 Hanging, on the wall are 3 chair objects hung similar to Shaker/Amish chair hanging construction, which were designed to hang on the wall and not to take up valuable floor space. Two objects are hand-made “sculptural- chairs”, which cannot stand alone. The sec- ond object is a folding chair which is folded flat and painted one color from a frontal view in the color of Amish board design. By unfolding the chair the original color of the wood is clearly visible creating a second composition (or view). Numerous contem- porary artists, have related the Shakers/Am- ish radical functionalism to their sculptural practice.
