2. Introduction
 Bessie Coleman was the first black woman to earn a
pilot's license.
 Because flying schools in the United States denied her
entry, she taught herself French and moved to France,
earning her license from France's well-known Caudron
Brother's School of Aviation in just seven months.
 Coleman specialized in stunt flying and parachuting,
earning a living barnstorming and performing aerial
tricks.
 She remains a pioneer of women in the field of aviation.

5. Opportunities for Youth
 Soaring Eagles take free flights that
inspire their journey into aviation.
• Youth 8 – 17 participate in the EAA Young Eagles
Program.
• Receive logbook and flight entry, and free FAA
approved private pilot ground school video course.
 Conduct museum and airport tours to
see firsthand the history of aviation and
speak with aviation experts.
 Youth have participated in EAA’s Air
Academy and overnight camps that are
designed to give youth hands-on
experience in the aviation world. Youth
are then challenged to use their new
gained knowledge in various projects
within the organization.

6. The needs to accomplish the mission
Owning an aircraft is expensive but the cost can
be reduced by building a plane.
 Plans to build Velocity XL-5
 Volunteers are needed
• Based at Harrison Airport, owned by
Cincinnati State College, the mechanics are
able to provide assistance during the plane
construction
 Funding – PERIOD.

encouragement and desire.
