WHAT IS HAIR DRUG TESTING
 Method that can detect drug use over a much
longer period of time
 The hair sample is cut close to the scalp and 80 to
120 strands of hair are needed for the test.
 Scientists estimate that drug use can be detected in
body hair for up to 12 months
BENEFITS OF HAIR STRAND DRUG ANALYSIS
 Dr Svetla Balabanova in 1992
 Discovered the presence of cocaine
in the hair of Egyptian mummies
 Unique long window of detection
covering months not days
 Non-invasive collection protocol
 Segmental head hair analysis can show trends or
patterns of drug use
 Drugs are locked in the hair
 Most commonly used sample analysis in child
protection and family law cases by UK courts
 Results within 5 working days of receipt of the
sample into our UK laboratory
SOME EXAMPLE
 Hair analysis to detect drugs of abuse has been
used by court systems in :
 United States,
 United Kingdom,
 Canada,
 and other countries worldwide
 As such, hair testing results are legally and
scientifically recognized as admissible evidence
 Hair testing is now recognised in both the UK and
US judicial systems
