The Peacock Spiders
By Brooklyn Bain
+
Looks and Additional
The peacock spider comes in more then one look more like forty-
four types. I only found twelve so far but it is most likely to be
found in a basic brown head with a yellow tail mixed with blue ,
green , orange and brown. In shades of sunlight you might see
purple. Its sized to be smaller then a finger nail of a human as
well which helps for jumping and being unseen.
+
The male actually preforms a dance with his tail to
attract a female and mates with many over the
whole year. Once he is done with one female he
moves on to another .
The Female has a choice to eat, mate with or fun
from the male seeing how she is just one of many
choices as the male slowly approaches her.
How it Lives
Both male and Female eat
Larva , small(er) insects and dust mites.
+
Where can you find one?
Peacock spiders are found in warm areas like
Australia, China , Madagascar (super rare) they
live in any plant they can find or jump onto but
the like to keep on their feet (the male) for
mating or food. While the female roams on her
own will.
+ Jürgen Otto was the one who made them well known and helped find more
about them so all the credit from this powerpoint is to him please
Humans have found many types of these peacock spiders and still are today to make them
known through out the world and crack their secrets to find what else these fascinating things do
and how they do it.
Peacock spiders aren’t known for their biting of course so they don’t do it as much as you think.
But they do by chance rarely bite humans and animals but that’s because there are
2 main types of peacock spiders and its not these little guys
It’s the bigger ones that are different as they sound (next slide)
+
The “ Other “ Kind
This peacock spider is known to bite more then the little ones, but has ten
times the effect on a living creature. But you might know them as a
“ Gooty Tarantula “ what can cause tons of flesh and skin loss with one bite.
They are closely related to the tiny peacock spiders but one miscalled as
one for their (main) looks which is the blue , yellow , black and white. What
humans have done in a harmful way is just getting them mixed up period,
which makes the the little guys seem like killers.
+
Population maintain?
Just like any other captivity center or
scientists they keep these little things under
close watch to make sure they have all the
different looks and could possibly make
more looks even though we already have
more then enough.
Good
Humans have kept
these things alive more
then it could on its own
We have saved over 40
types and found over 4
in the past 3 years
Bad
Humans have killed them
from fear of being bit
To many have been
eaten by animals like,
birds and rodents
