Carnival Sensation Cruise Ship The Sensation is a Fantasy class cruise ship, which began
operation with Carnival Cruise Lines in 1993. She was the third ship to be built in the Fantasy
class. The Sensation returned to active cruise service on February 12, 2009 after an extensive
drydocking and refit. During the refit, 98 private balconies were added to former ocean view
rooms. An adults only sunning area called Serenity was added to Promenade Deck, aft. A
children’s water park area was installed on Verandah Deck, aft, in an area formerly used as a
pool and sunning area. The Sensation’s main pool area on Lido Deck, midship, was renovated
and the water slide was removed. Other renovations included new carpeting in public spaces
and in her main dining rooms. Today, Sensation does 3 and 4 night cruises out of Port
Canaveral, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas and Freeport, Bahamas. Hurricane Katrina Sensation
was one of several cruise ships chartered by the US Government to provide accommodation for
refugees and relief workers following Hurricane Katrina. After being released from Federal
Emergency Management Agency service, the Sensation began cruising from Port Canaveral,
replacing the Fantasy on Carnival’s 3 and 4 day cruises from Port Canaveral. The Sensation
was featured in The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley: The Case of the Mystery Cruise (1995).
