New York City and Dubai have undergone drastic changes from the 1960s to today. In the 1960s, New York City was a major economic center with over 7 million residents and a strong manufacturing and retail industry. Dubai at that time was a small fishing village of 40,000 people with a developing economy based on fishing and pearling. Today, New York City remains a global economic hub with over 8 million residents and a massive subway system, while Dubai has transformed into a city of over 1 million people with the world's tallest building and extensive man-made islands after discovering oil in 1966.
