Brett Heckher interned in the marketing department at Buffalo Run Casino & Resort during the summer of 2012. He obtained the internship through a family connection to the general manager. Brett's supervisor was Jordan Bickett, who assisted the director Nicole Benedict. Brett spent much of his time making cold calls to solicit vendors for a poker run event. The work environment was disorganized and chaotic. Brett felt the work was monotonous and that he did not learn much beyond cold calling skills. He would not want to continue working there due to the lack of writing opportunities.

Casino Internship Insights
1. Buffalo Run Casino & Resort
Internship
BRETT HECKHER
SUMMER ’12
SUPERVISOR:
NICOLE BENEDICT
JORDAN BICKETT
2. Internship: How’d I get it?
I received the internship from a family friend, Steve
Bayshore, General Manager of the Buffalo Run
Casino. He put me in contact
with Nicole Benedict and the
marketing department at BR.
They offered me the
internship with them, helping
the assistant to the director,
Jordan Bickett.
3. Working Conditions
Working conditions were good, if not a little
disorganized. Work space seemed chaotic, and some
of my time there was spent organizing and cleaning
the office up.
I had my own desk and computer to work from,
where, I made many, many, many cold calls
soliciting vendors to join the Buffalo Bike Run, an
annual poker run.
4. Would I continue to work there?
If I had a choice? No.
The work, although very easy, seemed much to
monotonous. There seemed to be very little in
writing that I was able to help with. I now have much
more experience in a cold call, but other than that, I
can’t say I learned much more officially.
I did however, get to see how chaotic promotions are
in a casino. It seemed we were all trying to appease
the Owner of the Casino, Tony Holden. A very
straight laced man, but definitely impatient and
demanded results yesterday.
5. Supervision
Most of the time, I was paired with my supervisor,
Jordan Bickett. The director, Nicole Benedict, had to
many things to deal with, which flooded over onto
Jordan and Myself. Everyday, I would get new things
to do around the office, but more often than not, it
was cold calling.
For what it was, the supervision was good, but I
wished to be more involved in the writing for the the
casino.
