Review of situation and objectives
• JISCM@IL Contractual situation: operating
  envionment
• Re-siting of JISCM@il; timetable
• Re-engineering of a tired interface
• The chance to interface user-selected
  collaboration tools
• Use of international Open Source options
Progress to date
• Collaboration with RENATER
  – Use of Sympa for mail management
• Collaboration with SURFnet
  – Use of SURFconext to interface collaboration
    products
• Use of JISCM@il for list information
• Creation of a demonstration piece….
Demonstration
The demonstration has been put together to
show :-

• Access to a group collaboration portal from institutional log-in
  with user selection from all groups belonged to
• The appearance of a group portal offering
   • A group home page
   • Collaboration utilities
   • Collaboration products agreed as standard by the group
Review of Options
• Simple transfer and maintenance of JISCM@il
  in a new contract – somewhere
• Potential use of Sympa
• Re-development to become JISC Conext using
  – SURFconext
  – additional developments covering
     • access management
     • Portal construction
     • interface of collaboration products
Development – and Service
     Decisions……………….Decisions………………….
• Create a demonstrator product; show what can
  be done – but leave further action to users
• Create a real product using the best use/case
  scenarios we can find (esp. with research
  communities- the major JISCM@il users)
• As above – and
  – Build a more future-proofed, apatable system
  – Actually set out to provide a service – with operation,
    support and on-going development
Outline Planning
• Engage with the research community through
  JISC Innovation to
  – Establish their use/case
  – Build a supportive group
  – Add them to Project JACSoN governance
• More proof of concept work with some
  preferred collaborative tools
• Review progress by (?) Easter ?
