EXPERIENCE
Precision Mechatronics Laboratory, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering Jan ‘08 – Aug ‘10
Graduate Student Researcher (Master’s Thesis)
Title: “Analysis of switched Ethernet as a real-time communication standard in a Networked Control System”
• Designed and assembled a closed-loop DC Motor speed control system with proportional-integral controller.
• Programmed PIC16F877 microprocessor in C, used interrupt service routines for sensor control.
• Evaluated TCP and UDP protocols for real-time communication, gained understanding of PROFIBUS and
CANBus.
• Developed a UDP-based multi-client-multi-server architecture on a Linux platform with client-selection-
rejection algorithm; achieved 80% reduction in average packet delays compared to single-server architecture.
• Extensive experience with Wireshark for capacity analysis and time-delay calculations in a 100 Mbps LAN
employing a store and forward switch and a router.
• Conducted packet analysis to find real-time packet delays, loss, congestion and switch latencies.
• Strong proficiency in routing protocols – RIP and OSPF, and fundamental understanding of L2 switching.
• Hands-on experience in Linux administration, TCP/IP, LAN, WLAN, WIFI, DHCP and Network utilization.
• Employed open source software (RTAI and COMEDI) as a cost effective real time data acquisition system.
• Programmed Superlogics PCI 16-bit DAQ card in C and in VB6 using vendor provided API dlls.
• Embedded programming of network device drivers on Ubuntu, configuring I/O ports and troubleshooting of
processor-PCI board-Control system communication.
