Lord Of The Flies Extra Credit
1. Lord of the Flies Extra Credit
Students may earn up to 10 extra credit points to apply to an
assessment grade by reading LOTF. Additionally, students must also
successfully complete one of the following options:
1) Create a trailer of LOTF by selecting a song that would be
relevant to the message/symbolism of the book. Insert 5 quotes
and/or symbols into the trailer that connect with what we are
learning about government. Make connections to key terms. For
example – The conch represents democracy/order. You may use
ppt, windows moviemaker, or iMovie.
2) Make a Tchart analysis by selecting 1 character from the book
and choosing 3 of his quotes. Explain the meaning of each quote.
Then choose an historic or present day leader that parallels the
character in LOTF. Select 3 quotes from that person and explain
how it parallels the character in the book.
For example:
Ralph
“Jack, Jack your breaking the rules…the rules are the only thing we
got.”
Ralph values justice and defends Piggy’s right to speak according the
rules of the tribe. Ralph recognizes that there is a fine line between
law and order and a state of nature.
Abraham Lincoln
“A house divided against itself cannot stand”
Ralph fought to maintain justice within his tribe. Similarly, Lincoln
attempted to keep the Union together. He recognized the injustices of
slavery and directed the Civil War towards the abolition of slavery
despite the sacrifices he endured. Both Ralph and Lincoln held fast to
their ideals and did not compromise their integrity in the pursuit of
justice.
