Obama's Plans for Jobs, Taxes, Energy and Healthcare

Intro:
Annika Contention:
Obama has created jobs over the past four years while going through a
recession. The last time the U.S. was in a recession of this magnitude, was
The Great Depression in 1929. It took FDR, the president at that time, three
consecutive terms before he could implement enough programs to create
jobs. Obama has only been in office for one term, which supports why we
think that he should be re- elected.
2. Taxes Contention 11/2/2012 4:05:00 AM
Rebuttal :
Sandy Contention:
To be honest with you, both candidates are going to raise taxes, it just
depends on who they are going to tax. Obama’s priority is to lower taxes on
the middle class families and to raise taxes on the wealthy. He is calling on
Congress to pass a one-year extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for people
earning less than $250,000 a year. But this is because the wealthier people
can afford it. Obama also wants to help the smaller community business’s by
lowering there tax rates. Obamas plan on taxing the middle class less than
the wealthy has already saved the middle class 3,600 dollars per year.
Obama said his proposal would provide the certainty of no tax increase next
year for 98% of Americans. It would also benefit 97% of small busisness.

Josh Contention:
Obama is very committed to making our nation energy independent.
Obama wants to do this through conservation of our 100 year supply of oil
and gas products as well as increasing our usage of green energy. He has
invested in the auto industry to help make cars that use less fuel per gallon,
and clean burning energy that isn’t hurtful to the environment. The Obama
administration has finalized regulations that will force the auto industry to
nearly double the average gas mileage of all new cars and trucks sold in
America by 2025. The President also believes that we should take
advantage of our never ending, natural resources like solar, and wind to
generate green energy.
4. HealthCare Contention 11/2/2012 4:05:00 AM

Brie’s Contention:
There are people in America that don’t have healthcare. The U.S. is the most
developed nation in the world, and yet our people can’t get insured for
healthcare. This is because our people either can’t afford it or can’t get
insured because of previous illnesses they have had. Thus, Obama thinks it
should be taken into the hands of the government to pass a bill that makes
healthcare a system the American people can afford. That everyone no
matter what there past might have contained can get insured and not get
crumpled with medical bills when the time comes.
5. Closer Summary 11/2/2012 4:05:00 AM
Whitney Summary:
What we have concluded to in this debate is that Obama has great ideas that
can change this country for the better. The President just hasn’t had enough
time to put them into motion. President Barack Obama has created jobs in
the last four years. Obama’s plan is to invest 447 billion dollars into the
economy to stimulate job creation. Since Obama has been in office, we have
seen thirty- one consecutive months of job growth. In those thirty- one
months, five point two million new private sector jobs have been created.
Right now the unemployment rate is down to seven- point- eight percent,
which isn’t great but is now the same as when he took office. During
Obama’s first term, in the middle of the recession we experienced, it went
up dramatically to ten percent in 2009.
As Sandy has stated previously , Obama plans on lowering taxes
on the middle class but at the same time heightening taxes on the
wealthy to help reduce or enormous deficit. So far Obama’s tax
cuts have saved the middle class $3,600 dollars. His plan has been
proven to reduce the deficit by $4 trillion dollars. If Barack is re-
elected he will cut taxes for every working, middle class American.
o As Josh has mentioned beforehand, Obama wants to invest in
green energy and to double the average gas mileage of all
new cars and trucks in 2025. The goal of this act is slashing,
greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.
