  2. 2. <ul><li>Barack Obama has won the 2008 Presidential election. During his campaign across the United States he told us where he stands on many important issues. Here is what we have learned about his position on the economy, education, Iraq, healthcare, and the environment. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Obama’s Promises for Jobs and the Economy <ul><li>Barack Obama promises to make laws that protect the people who take out loans for their house. He wants to make wages bigger for hardworking people. He is going to work to keep small businesses in small towns working. For taxes, he wants to make the wealthier people’s taxes higher and the less wealthy people’s lower. He will take that extra money and give it to the less wealthy people. </li></ul>

Obama’s Promises On Education <ul><li>Believes in Early Childhood Education </li></ul><ul><li>Wants to change “No Child Left Behind” </li></ul><ul><li>Believes the country should focus on science and math, not just reading and writing </li></ul><ul><li>Reward teachers that make progress with students </li></ul><ul><li>Create a “Zero To Five Plan” for education for infants and toddlers </li></ul>
  5. 5. Obama’s Promises For Iraq <ul><li>Is against the war in Iraq </li></ul><ul><li>Will begin removing troops immediately </li></ul><ul><li>Wants all combat troops out of Iraq within sixteen months </li></ul>

Obama’s Healthcare Promises <ul><li>Lower cost for healthcare </li></ul><ul><li>Make insurance companies spend more on patient care </li></ul><ul><li>Expand eligibility to more people for existing healthcare programs that the government has </li></ul><ul><li>Give the people the option to chose health plans similar to that of the government employees </li></ul><ul><li>Make large businesses and government help pay for healthcare costs </li></ul>

Obama’s Promises on the Environment <ul><li>Our country should be a leader in getting the world to reduce greenhouse gases </li></ul><ul><li>Wants to create rules to limit the amount of greenhouse gases an industry can produce </li></ul><ul><li>Promote the creation of environmentally friendly cars </li></ul><ul><li>Reward forest owners, farmers, and ranchers for helping the environment </li></ul><ul><li>Share environmentally friendly </li></ul><ul><li>technologies with less wealthy countries </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>The candidates for President both stood on different platforms. They agreed on some things, but disagreed on others. Barack Obama says he will make changes for the people of the United States. Let’s see if he keeps his word on the promises he has made over these next four years. </li></ul>
