3. CA ST RPC, Rule 1-320 This rule guides lawyers and law firms compensation methods with non-lawyers. (A) Prohibits sharing fees with non-lawyers with the exceptions of (1) and (2) in the instance of a lawyers death when money is rightly due to the deceased lawyer and payable to his estate or beneficiary, (3) with non-lawyer employees who benefit from plans supported by profit-sharing arrangements absent any violations of rules and (4) when using an approved lawyer referral service. (B) Prohibits giving anything of value as incentive to gain employment. (C) Prohibits giving anything of value to a communication outlet as means to publicity.

5. CA ST RPC, Rule 2-200 This rule guides lawyers and law firms compensation methods with other lawyers. (A) Prohibits sharing a fee with a lawyer who is not a direct colleague with the exceptions of (1) with informed consent of the client and (2) if the sharing does not result in unfair fees. (B) Prohibits giving anything of value as incentive to gain employment except as allowed (by 2-300) in the instance of selling a lawyers practice or law firm.
