Water resources include sources used or potentially usable by humans and ecosystems. Most human uses require fresh water, which makes up only 3% of the total water on Earth, with over two thirds frozen in glaciers and polar ice caps. Sources of water include rain, oceans, rivers, lakes, streams, ponds and springs naturally, and man-made sources like dams, wells and canals. Rainwater collects as surface water and underground water, with some underground water pressing through soil and rock to occasionally spring up or be accessed via wells.
