Discuss going on a holiday with the students. How do you plan one? What do
you need to know before you go? Ask the students to talk about a holiday they
were on and what went into planning it. Did they have any problems because of
bad planning, misinformation or lack of information?
Have the students look at the brochures they brought and elicit from them what
type of information is written in the brochures. Write this on the blackboard. Ask
them what information is missing from the brochures. From this list, decide what
makes a travel brochure attractive, interesting, informative, etc. This will serve as
criteria for assessment of the brochures the students will make later. Make sure
each student gets a copy of the final list.
Divide the students into pairs or small groups. Ask each group to choose a city or
tourist attraction around the world for their travel brochure. They may use Travel
Brochure Guide to help them.
Each brochure should include a brief description of the city/tourist attraction,
geographical location, tourist sights available (including brief descriptions) and
local seasonal weather.
The brochure should also include examples of:
 hotels/accommodations available
 food and dining
 transportation (optional: flights/trains/boats schedule and cost)
 prices
 optional: suggested tours
Students can add in whatever additional information they think necessary to
make their brochure attractive. Remind them not to forget pictures.
Presentation
Students will present their brochures to the class. The brochures will be
assessed according the list of criteria set at the beginning of this activity.
