Julie Davenport is a 29-year-old accountant from Edinburgh, Scotland who recently moved to the quiet village of Usk, Wales to escape the pressures of her high-powered job and a forbidden relationship with a colleague. She enjoys the rural scenery and solitary lifestyle that Usk allows. Julie had a strict upbringing as an only child raised by her grandparents and can be stubborn and perfectionist. While intelligent and career-focused, she struggles to form close relationships and often prefers being alone with a good book.
2. Rachel: Julie moved from
Edinburgh to the quiet village of Usk
to get away from the busy city life.
She chose Usk because of the rolling
countryside, quiet open spaces and
the low crime rate, plus her favourite
author was born there. She doesn’t
mind the rainy reputation of Wales,
as it means she can sit inside by
herself with a good book.
Julie attended an all girls private
school as a child, and continued her
education to a high level where she
achieved her accountancy degree.
But as a high earning accountant in
Edinburgh she began to feel the
pressures in her work place, along
with a frowned upon relationship
with a colleague, which forced the
already imminent move.
3. Flo: In Edinburgh, Julie trusted
people very easily, resulting into her
being deceived one too many times.
When she moved to Usk, she built
walls around herself making it very
hard for people to get to know her. As a
reserved and shy young woman, she
doesn’t go out much meaning that she
spends most of her time alone.
However, she sometimes likes to go to
the park and pretend to read a novel in
hopes that the perfect man will come
and sweep her off her over-priced
blanket.
Julie has been raised as an only child
by her grandparents and therefore goes
for what she wants. She is a difficult
woman to work with, as she is a
perfectionist. She has a high standard
and wouldn’t settle for anything less
than what is expected. Slightly self-
centred, she is known to have a bit of a
temper when things do not go the way
she would like them to.
4. Mike: Because Julie was raised by
her grandparents so tends to be old
fashioned in her beliefs, values and
taste. (in comparison to her peers/
age group) Money isn't really a
concern when it comes to
purchases - she can be impulsive
but is more interested in the
unique, authentic, individual and
bespoke. She makes her own
Christmas card for Lionel, her dead
cat. She used to be motivated by
money, but it did not bring her
happiness. She now wants security
and good quality of life without
complication.
