This course project summarizes key lessons and takeaways from a political science course. The student's favorite week covered diversity and how people view it differently. Their favorite activity was time management and learning to prioritize tasks. Going forward, they hope to practice soft skills like embracing diversity and learn more about learning styles. Major lessons included the importance of sleep, embracing diversity, and changing self-talk. Their dream is to live by the beach fostering cats with their boyfriend and advancing their political science career.
2. Favorite Week Of The Course
- My favorite week out of the couple I spent in the class would probably be
Week 5, learning about the Six “Gains” of Diversity, the Habit Six,
“Synergize,” and how everyone sees diversity in different ways.
- In one of the readings of Week 5 there was a quote that really stood out
There is three ways to deal with diversity, “We shun it, tolerate it or
celebrate it.” That quote I really loved and can see it in the people in my
life and what they beleive, but it also shows the people who are not open
to diversity do not have that emotional intelligence and growth as others.
3. Favorite Discussion Or Application Activity
Please discuss your favorite discussion or application activity, answer what,
why and how you will use it.
- The most effective application activity that we did was the time
management, I hope in the future to really focus on all my priorities, not
wasting my time and energy on things that don’t matter.
- I liked learning about the Pareto Principle; 80 percent of your results
come from 20 percent of your time, so we build the lives we want and life
builds itself. If I dont have time then it is not a priority, I deserve to fill my
life with things that desrve to be there.
4. Learning More
What topic from this course do you hope to learn more about in the future?
- Not necessarily learn, but continue to practice a better mindset and personal
responsibility to take effective action in order to succeed instead of keeping
myself from acting.
- I hope to learn more about soft skills such as Habit 6, synergize, like learning
to value and work well with other people. Which also ties along with growing
and embracing diversity because it can be so much more than race and
gender, it is also language, age, upbringing, gender, lifestyles and so much
more.
- In the future I would also like to learn more about learning styles, and how
they do not even exist so I can better work for what works for me instead of
placing a stereotype on how I learn.
5. Lessons Learned
Write about a few lessons you have learned in this course that you will carry with
you beyond this course. (One of the major reasons you enter college is to learn
things that you can carry forward in to your life and career. What are those things
from this course?)
- I learned about how sleep can drastically change and affect our memory, so
using this knowledge in college I want to take priority of my sleeping schedule.
- I also learned that embracing diversity can enhance social development,
promote creative thinking, enhance self awareness, and can prepare myself
for future goal.
- Changing my inner self talk such as my inner critic and inner defender to
change my inner conversations to change my behavior and improve myself.
6. Life In The Future
If you accomplished all of your goals and dreams, show us what you life would
look like. What would you be doing, where would you be and who would be
there with you?
My dream life would be living with my current boyfriend in our own house fostering kittens
and cats to rehome them. I would love to live on the beach someday, anywhere just not in
Texas and further continue my career in Political Science, hopefully becoming successful and
being able to make a difference.
