Teen-Age Crime Wave
The intention of the film is to put across the challenge of
juvenile insurgence of crime rate in the society. The film makes
use of a female character whose childhood is abused, with a
record in crime and the choice for her blouses has a bad taste.
Also there is another naive woman character that goes on a
double date with the first woman. The other lady manages to
seduce a bar patron who is doughy. Their intention is to roll the
old patron. However, their plan of robbing the bar man is
unmasked after the two are arrested and a harsh sentence of
incarcerating them is imposed. The male character is a gun
enthusiast who kills in order to achieve his desires, intercepts
the vehicle transporting the two ladies and assists them to
escape. Later the guy is intercepted by the police while heading
to the farmhouse but they hold hostage in the vehicle.
The Film is a teenager movie that focuses on the characters and
lifestyle of teens. The film uses more youth actors who play on
the screen very delinquently. Teenage Age Crime Wave is a
major version where the community is surrounded by criminals.
The film shows how Hollywood’s juvenile youths have a culture
of violence and how they disregard families and properties.
There is a growing public concern regarding the severity of
juvenile crime during that period. For instance, there is an
increase in the number of court cases, there is social
disintegration and the misbehavior of the youth symbolizes this.
The Teen-Age Crime Wave reveals a curios and an inconsistent
fascination of culture among the youth through its cast of young
actors. Therefore, it caters for the young audience by capturing
certain lifestyles of youths and promoting some perspectives of
the youth. The youth are have been targeted in this film for
various reasons. For instance, the youths have an income and
therefore are able to enjoy themselves at entertainment joints,
the youths of today are the consumption driven and the same is
expected in future when they become parents. The film further
shows evidence on how it pays attention to the youths’
attitudes and behaviors where there are various crimes being
committed. Therefore, the film has capitalized deeply on the
youth’s social behavior and concern for their personal traits
(Grant, 2012).
Dominant issues in the film are the high levels of juvenile crime
that have become a major problem. For instance, there is false
conviction of the youths, thus the film has raised issues that are
focusing on a series of crime in juvenile and how it signifies the
major crisis in America. The characters commit crimes but they
are intercepted by the police while there are on the run.
Majority of those arrested are the youths as opposed to the
adults. The film also explores the history of the contemporary
America, the changing of laws and how the communities are
trying the best way possible to reduce the crime rate among the
youths. Most of these young offenders who commit crimes in
juvenile are taken to rehabilitation centers in a bid to correct
their attitudes and behaviors. These are interesting issues being
brought out by the film, as to whether the teenage offenders
should be subjected to trials the same way the adults are tried,
and whether they should have a right to jury and have the
possibility of being subjected to punishments that are harsh.
Although there is a rise in crime in juvenile, there is a decline
of the family violence (kirkusreviews.com, n.d)
Young people have problems occurring naturally, juvenile’s
crime as depicted in the film, is as a result of economic class,
neglect by parents and presence of alcohol. For example, the
bar patron is almost robbed were it not for quick response by
the police. These scenarios illustrate the disturbing wave of
crime committed by youths, both male and female. The crimes
committed in the film are a true reflection of what is happening
in our society today. However, it seems that the crimes in
juvenile are as a result of neglect. The issue of identity is
clearly pointed out in the film. For instance, there was a
mistaken identity of arresting the young lady and sentencing her
to insertion. The film has brought out the image of youths in the
Contemporary American cinema where they are offered a
place to reflect how their identities evolve from adolescence,
teenage to adulthood.
The film also reveals the moral panic where girls are gangs and
uncontrolled. The same way there are male who criminals are as
well. Such observations are not the traditional expectations how
a woman should be viewed. A woman should be decently
dressed. However, this is not the case. The woman character
wears a blouse that has a bad taste. It implies that a woman
should wear clothes that are generally accepted by the entire
community. Despite the concerns of the delinquency, the
youths, both male and female, remain high. Such observations
are an indication that as a community, it is wise to remain
updated on changes in behavior of both female and male
children. As a result, it will be easier to timely assess whether
their behaviors and attitudes have become crime-centered
Through gender identification, it becomes easier to point out
criminal behaviors among the youths. In most cases, men are
likely to commit more crimes while the female counterparts
commit fewer crimes. The male character in the film intercepted
the car carrying the arrested female criminals and tried to
rescue them .This is a sure way of justifying the above
sentiments. The same is held in every society in almost all
categories of crime. The involvement of both genders in the
‘teen-crime wave’ is a good way of showing the current trends
and historical patterns of crime rates committed by females as
compared to crimes committed by men. Therefore, the film has
managed to outline briefly a ‘gendered’ approach to enable
its audience understand the differences in terms of gender, the
norms, social integration and the criminal activities between
men and women. Identity among the teens is a psychological
relationship in regard to a given category socially. Developing a
strong sense of belonging is the main task of teens. While the
process of developing identity takes place throughout the entire
life of an individual, the adolescent stage is the only stage
where one starts thinking about how one’s identity will affect
him or her. The kind of relationship that a teenage has with his
or her peers, family members, and the society as a whole is very
crucial in the growth and development of that teenager. The
adolescent stage is very essential in shaping one’s attitude and
behavior .As a teenager; one may be influenced easily by those
around him or her. Research also shows that there are three
kinds of relationship that can influence a teenager’s identity:
class, race and sexuality.
While teenagers strive to gain their own freedom, the
unexpected might occur resulting into a nightmare for the
entire society .At times; conflicts may arise during adolescent
regarding small issues. However, regarding important issues,
many teenagers always strive to share the same attitudes and
characters and their parents, peers and the surrounding
community. On the other hand, there are certain behaviors that
lead to shaping the character of a teenager, and these may be
rooted to culture and other social responsibilities.
In conclusion, the film showcases how crime is rife among the
youths. Furthermore, it highlights the measures that the
government introduces such as juvenile in order to reduce crime
among the youths. A picture is also portrayed on how crime is
more common among the males as compared to the female
youths. An insight on the effect of crimes on behavior is also
manifested in the film.
