might have made our holiday simpler! Why didn't we pay attention? If only we had looked at a

Sat Nav! No, we don't believe we need Sat Nav, we've a road map & we are going on a three
month road spree all over Europe. We have lots of time, we're as free as a bird for three mths.
Our idea is to drive anywhere the mood takes us.

Flying from Australia headed for London is easy, get on the airplane in Sydney and we know we
are going to disembark in London, we believe the pilot knows his way, suppose he has a map just
like us. On 2nd thoughts perhaps he has Sat Nav in his cockpit. No matter what, we're now in
vacation mood, content to go where on earth the aircraft takes us.
Driving in England is easy, we've done it many times, they drive on the exact same side of the
road as in Australia, the highway signs are in English and we know just where we're going, just as
driving at home. Staying with family for a couple of weeks prior to starting our European road
expedition is wonderful.
Their question, before we depart for our ship from Dover in the direction of Calais France is, do
you have a Sat Nav? No, we say, we don't need one we are planning on going where the wind
takes us.
Do you think you're sure, you do not need to borrow our Gps navigation, we've a Garmin
Bluetooth you may have a loan of they say. No thanks, we won't need it we reply lightly, skipping
out the door for the beginning of our great journey. Doh!
Collecting our lease automobile in Calais is exciting, we are without hesitation, heading off to
Paris, and intend stopping overnight in Lille prior to meandering on to Paris the following day.
Whoa!!!!!
Ok, just a few laps around the car park ought to get us accustomed to driving a left hand drive
car. Fortunately we do not need a map or a GPS Garmin navigation system for this. Whoops,
have got to keep in mind to drive on a different side of the highway (for us), just to be on the safe
side.
Ten minutes later we are ready to hit the road, my sister sits with the map on her knee, she is the
2. delegated direction-finder and I am the delegated driver, one last query before we drive from the
carpark, are you certain we don't need to obtain a GPS deal? No, comes the reply we'll merely
follow the atlas it really is straightforward.
Not surprisingly it's uncomplicated on the freeway, big signs, even if they are in French we're
feeling pretty comfortable, arriving in Lille is our initial ordeal to locating our hotel. Our map does
not illustrate the local streets. Several phone calls later, & French talking directions with the lodge
personnel, we're in spite of everything off course. Driving round the area streets, stopping often to
solicit people, who can't converse in English, for directions, is a mind numbing experience.
Our gratitude to the helpful dentist we met on the street, requiring directions, he thoughtfully
offered to drive towards the inn and that we might follow him, because he thought it was better
than trying to clarify where we needed to reach. He was the very first of the many travel angels
met on our journey.
Morning 2, off to Paris feeling fantastic, we have considered our trusty atlas & head off with
confidence. Hit the Arc de Triomphe & instantly we're in for a massive initiation, driving within a
left hand drive car (unusual for us) on the wrong side of the highway (for us) in addition to going
around a roundabout the incorrect way (for us) proves to be enormously confronting.
The French drivers do not know that you're brand new to their kind of road system and doubtless
don't mind much either. This was like a free for all, seems you do not have to take notice of
driving in a lane or giving way, road rules seem to be rather in the vein of playing Russian
Roulette with a loaded revolver. Needless to say my navigating sister could not pinpoint which
boulevard to take off the roundabout, since our atlas was in English not French. Lol!
Taking into account driving round the Arc de Triomphe seven times (merely because we could not
safely exit), we at this point #have the# hang of it, also consider this as being our European
driving initiation ordeal. Suppose we passed the ordeal because we arrived, unharmed at our
hotel. Where I might add our car remained, in the hotel automobile parking space, for the next few
days.
We've now, finished day two of our three month European road journey, our car is cheerfully
ensconced within the car park plus we're happily discovering this excellent French city, on foot!
3. Morning 3 is now planned, first up for the day is off to look for the local electronics store. We need
to check out the most effective GPS deals, we have unanimously determined a Sat Nav system is
definitely an unqualified essential prior to we continue our journey.
We tend to both reach a decision, we should have listened to our relatives and leased a vehicle
with a gps. On the other hand, not all is lost, we at this moment have the fun of trying to obtain the
very best navigation Garmin in Paris. Our first night in Paris was spent online checking out Sat
Navs and particularly the Garmin reviews.
I suppose we might have to be the only ladies in Paris who's earliest purchase was a Garmin
product and not a fashion product.
I need to let you know our sat nav Garmin Bluetooth was the very best buy we made for the
duration of our three month European spree.
As for our tour, we had the very best time ever, met many fabulous folks, saw many amazing
places plus mastered the knack of driving European style, undamaged as well as pressure free,
thanks to our trusty Garmin bluetooth sat nav.
