Overview
• Dr. Saido’s group has generated three lines of mice
that do not over-produce APP, each of which
overexpresses Aβ with a distinct primary sequence
but is otherwise identical to the other two lines.

Useful for advancing our
understanding of …
• The temporal and spatial patterns of Aβ
aggregation in the living brain
o Diffuse versus neuritic plaques, especially relative to humans with AD
o Aβ oligomers that are associated with plaques, like those which react with
OC and NAB61 antibodies
o Aβ oligomers that are not associated with plaques, like Aβ*56 and Aβ
pores which react with A11 antibodies
• The role of distinct Aβ species on cognition
o They found no deficit using the water maze
• We can increase the sensitivity of the water maze by measuring
retention (only acquisition seems to have been measured here)
o We find that the water maze produces more reproducible results than the
Y maze (motivational variability is greater in Y maze than in water maze)
