Yandex, a large Russian tech company, created an app feature called "Give a High Five to Team Russia" to allow fans to support Russian athletes competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The feature allowed users to send virtual high fives to athletes, who could then respond by slamming their hand on an interactive display in Rio. Over 92,000 high fives were sent, and Russian athletes specifically visited the display to return greetings to new supporters. Both fans and athletes found the mutual support meaningful during a controversial Olympics for Russia.
