Pollution is defined as an undesirable change in the physical, chemical, or biological characteristics of air, water, or soil that adversely affects human and other living organisms' health and survival. A pollutant is a substance, either natural or human-made, that is present in concentrations higher than normal in the environment due to human activity and has a detrimental effect. Pollutants can be physical, chemical, or biological contaminants and are categorized based on their origin, whether natural or from anthropogenic point sources and nonpoint sources, and their degradability. Pollution has negative effects such as damage to human health, plants and animals, and property.
