1. Ben skin riders’ transportation in Cameroun: job creation or job migration?
By
Alain Ndedi
Director: Yenepad,
Email: alainndedi@ymail.com
For the past ten years in Cameroon, the Ben skin transportation has been used as the common mode of transportation for many Cameroonians. This shift of mode of transportation has been explained among many business cycles as a way of creating jobs in Cameroon. However, a recent empirical study conducted in the city of Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, shows the contrary. With a sample of 500 Ben skin riders, more than 90 per cent of them have previous jobs before entering the Ben skin transportation; a phenomenon commonly known as job migration instead of job creation as previously thought in Cameroon.
The present paper develops in its first part the concepts of entrepreneurship, job migration and job creation while the second will explains the methodology used during the empirical study. The third part highlights a framework for efficient and effective job creation policies in Cameroon.
Key words: Cameroon, entrepreneurship, job creation and job migration.
