Agapé Mission Church - A Shared
Focus on Christ and Sports
Serving the Elkridge, Maryland, community,
Agapé Mission Church maintains a full range of
Christian ministries for families, couples, singles,
and students. Emphasizing the positive aspects of
shared activities, Agapé Mission Church
organizes tournaments and teams in volleyball,
ultimate frisbee, soccer, and flag football.
Agapé’s Mission Control site provides a wealth of current
and archived sermon and reflection resources. An
October, 2012, piece “Joy of the Race” draws a distinct
analogy between sporting activities and people’s
relationship with God. The post proposes that how a
person rates his or her skill as a runner is not as
important as “purpose and perseverance” in running a
true course toward Jesus. The post stresses the
importance of letting go of those burdens that will slow
one down or distract one from the goal at hand. As one
runs with set upon Jesus, extraneous aspects of life are
set aside and discouragement does not set in, despite
challenges. Many of these principles inform Agapé sports
activities that seek to build character and community in a
Christ-centered environment.
