4. LANDMARKS
• Lobe: One of the primary centre of calcifictation during crown
development.eg anterior teeth has 4 lobes.
3-distal lobe
2-labial lobe
1-mesial
lobe
4-lingual
lobe
5. MAMELONS
• Seen in permanent anterior teeth developed from 3
lobes(mesial, distal, labial lobes. It is present on incisal 3rd of
newly erupted incisors
CINGULUM
Bulge or elevation on lingual surface of incisors or canines. It is
the lingual lobe that makes up the bulge on cervical 3rd of lingual
7. CUSP
• A point, beak or rounded elevation or mound on crown portion
of tooth making up a divisional part of occlusal surface.
• Seen on occlusal surface of cuspid, bicuspid or molar teeth. Each
cusp represent a centre of calicification or lobe
8. TUBERCLE
• Tubercle is small elevation on some portion of crown by extra
formation of enamel.occurs on marginal ridge of posterior teeth,on
cingulum of anterior teeth,on palatal surface of teeth.
9. RIDGE
• Ridge is an linear elevation present on surface of tooth & is usually
named according to its location( eg buccal ridge, marginal ridge)
• Labial ridge
12. MARGINAL RIDGES
• Are those rounded borders of enamel that form the mesial & distal
margins of occlusal surfaces of premolar and molars, and mesial and
distal margins of lingual surfaces of incisors and canines.
13. TRIANGULAR RIDGE
• Are the ridges that run from tips of cusps of premolars & molars
towards the centre of occlusal surfaces, resembles sides of a triangle.
14. TRANSVERSE RIDGE
• Are formed by 2 triangular ridge buccal and lingual that join
transversely across the occlusal surface of posterior teeth
• OBLIQUE RIDGE-runs obliquely on occlusal surface of maxillary
molars.formed by union of triangular ridge of disto-buccal
cusp and distal ridge of mesiopalatal cusp
16. • FOSSA
• Irregular depression or concavity found on lingual surface of
anterior teethor occlusal surface of posterior teeth.
• Lingual fossa-found on lingual surface of anterior teeth
bounded by marginal ridges
• Central fossa-major fossa found on occlusal surface of molars
which are are formed by converging ridges terminating at a
central point in the bottom of depression
• Triangiular fossa-on occlusal surface of molars and
premolars.mesial & distal triangular fossa which is seen
adjacent to distal marginal ridge
18. DEVELOPMENTAL GROOVES
• Are sharply defined narrow & linear depressions seen
separating the major portions of tooth developing from
different lobes.Posterior teeth have distinct central
developmental groove which divides occlusal part in to 2-
buccal & lingual portion.
19.
20. PITS
• Pits are pinpoint depressions located at junction of
developmental grooves or at terminals of the grooves.pits are
found at the deepest of fossa
21. MAJOR ROOT LAND MARKS
• Root trunk-term used to denote undivided cervical portion of
root of multirooted teeth
• Furcation-the division of root of multirooted teeth, when root is
dividing in to two-bifurcation,trifurcation
22.
23. CONTACT POINT OR AREAS
• Are places on proximal surface of crowns where a tooth
touches adjacent crown of tooth in same arch.proximal contact
area located on mesial & distal surface of teeth
24. INTERPROXIMAL SPACES
• Triangular or v shaped spaces seen between the adjacent
teeth, cervical to contact area.the sides of a triangle are formed
by proximal surface of adjacent teeth, base by alveolar
bone.theses spaces are normally filled with gingival tissues
called papillary gingiva or interdental papilla.
• When recession occurs-papilla or bone no longer fill the entire
proximal surface and creates voids cervical to contact called
cervical or gingival embrasure
25.
26. EMBRASURES
• Spillways or v shaped spaces seen between facial, lingual,or
occlusal to contact areas, they allow passage of food around
teeth so that it is not forced in to contact area
