In a world where distractions were long thought the enemy, on man befriends that foe and finds freedom
and a shiny object in Earth rock since then he has embraced the distraction and searches to help others in
the epic battle against the norm. And now distracted with Mark Patey.
Mark: Hello, hello welcome to the distracted program this is a new kind of episode we gonna try it once see
how it works its called a short by short it means its not gonna go 30 to 40 or 50 minutes but short so were
gonna talk really fast
Jeremiah: So your saying short as in not long but brief
Mark: As in not long so go really fast but brief, Its when we have something that comes up that just have to
be talk about now for our own personal therapeutic reasons we have to deal with it
Jeremiah: So its not a rant?
Mark: Its not a rant it could be a rant, infact to go over our rules we have to be very serious about this one
today
Jeremiah: Coz we three very specfic rules that we really,really, really need you all to understand because we
are going to abuse these rules

3. The Three rules
Mark: Abuse today, especially today
Jeremiah: Rule number 1 we reserved the right to be wrong we maybe wrong today
Mark: But were gonna be very passionate about it, we gonna be passionately wrong if were wrong, We
reserved the right to change our mind as we learn and grow and especially today probably the most
important rule because of the short topic of the day
Jeremiah: We reserved the right to offend
Mark: Yup free speech will be practiced here we will say what we think will be completely honest in our
feelings and emotionals and we know that will most likely offend certainly it is likely to offend those who did
this study

4. Does pre-school child have adhd?
Jeremiah: Okay, this is actually US news world report real published article and the headline is, Does your pre
school child have adhd
Mark: Well yeah of course they do there in pre school
Jeremiah: Of course they do, okay I could have save them a lot of money in time
Mark: How much tax payers dollas were spent on this study but wait wait but maybe they don’t have adhd
certainly they’ll show all the symptoms of adhd their in pre school
Jeremiah: I shall read, When pre schoolers have trouble staying still or paying attention
Mark: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Are there pre schoolers that don’t have a problem staying still and paying attention?
Jeremiah: This is been an uneducated at the same time
Mark: Absolutely because apparantly there are only a few select number of pre schoolers that have a hard time
paying attention and staying still because anytime I think of the pre school I think of 30 wonderful little kids
attentive paying attention quit still and only that one kid that’s not
Jeremiah: Okay this our brief short segment commando style and were only one sentence. When preschoolers
have trouble staying still or paying attention, a combination of parent, teacher and clinician observations helps
most in predicting the child's risk of having attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at a later age, a new
study indicates.

5. Executive Function
Mark: And in thus predicting there future failure in life
Jeremiah: We can actually think about the brilliance of this we can now tell kids at a younger age that they
are broken
Mark: Oh that’s awesome, because theres nothing like telling someone their broken the sooner the better, I
always say get it out there the sooner as soon as possible you have a problem your broken its brain damage
probably damage to the pre frontal load that will permanently affect your executive function and tell them
soon
Jeremiah: And let me tell you something those pre schooler their executive function at pre school level that’s
Mark: Because all pre schoolers have great executive function
Jeremiah: That’s the first thing I think of the pre schoolers, So let me continue now I just gonna pick in my
way through this because that says it all however the study did follow 104 hyperactive or inattentive 3 and 4
year old children for 2 years so they probaly had hard time following
Mark: So they follow all of them
Jeremiah: They have a hard time following if only we can

6. Rating the behaviour
Mark: We got so many candidates here okay we just need to pick a hundred of them so lets pick a hundred first
1 hundred through the door qualify for the study
Jeremiah: Oh wait their behaviour was rated by their parents and teachers as well as clinicians who conducted
psychological test on the children so the whole premise is
Mark: Can you imagine a pre schooler sitting in a small room with a swinging live bulb and a therapist with a
stuffy on smarter than you glasses on interogating them
Jeremiah: With a little hand puppet

7. Indentifying adhd in kids
Jeremiah: So the findings essential what thery are saying is I kinda wraps up then, Being able to identify
children at increased risk for ADHD may help parents, teachers and clinicians plan appropriate interventions,
the researchers said. Yeah but what interventions are they putting in place right now?
Mark: Do we need to put in place at the same time interventions for the distraction to their selfworth is this
place of
Jeremiah: Lets use the addicts and millionares approach so we have inattentive and hyperactive what if they
did the study on were trying to find the brilliant and creative children in all of America
Mark: The future business owners, ineventors and enterprenuers what you will do is you’ll go to a classroom
and you will pick 100 pre schoolers
Jeremiah: 104 children that were?
Mark: 104 children that were energetic hyperactive if your looking for the disease and energetic if your looking
for the gift. And you would look for those that are hyper aware of everything around them that have such high
awareness that they cant help but noticed all of there surroundings infact the ones that are easily switch from
one task to another like multitaskers you would look for those but if your looking for the curse look for the
ones that are distracted

8. Let your kids grow and learn
Jeremiah: The good news is that at three or four years old now
Mark: We can determine who the millionares and the billionares are of the world
Jeremiah: You know what here it is give them a box of legos that has instructions the kids that follows the
instructions brick for brick probably not adhd the kids that do whatever they want
Mark: And build their own thing might be adhd it’s a gift and a curse the poor kid did not end up with a car in
the box but he ended up with an awesome airplane
Jeremiah: Or he stuff up one his nose and it got stuck and he just past out
Mark: Its so far up in his nose that pushing the pee
Jeremiah: So I guess folks out there the good news is that if you would like to have your three or four year old
who maybe inattentive and distracted you can get them a test for adhd and plan approriate interventions or
whatever they maybe
Mark: Yes please or you could give your kids the opportunity to discover who they are grow into that learn how
to manage the challenges of whatever brain they were born with and magnify the gifts of whatever brain they
were born with without the confines of a label
Jeremiah: And may I say something that may not applicable to anyone out there but maybe steamingly
applicable to some don’t have your kids take a test or seek treatment to fix to make your life easier, is that
make sense?

9. Let kids be kids
Mark: Okay so now were treading on deadly waters here
Jeremiah: We reserved the right to offend and I’m going that road
Mark: So if we gonna go down that road, I am so sick of the parents that embraced the disorder label the
disfunctional latter the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder that embraced that as their validation to why
they’re not a bad parent its okay and yes its explaines and its okay to yeah they got this challenges of brain
that does things differently and that explains a lot and its okay that it explains a lot but when its suddenly now
I don’t have to be accountable as a parent I can tell a parent oh yeah yeah his my adhd child and so to get a
child
Jeremiah: We just need to adjust his meds
Mark: Yeah adjust his meds and my child has permission on my part now to misbehave and I have permission
as a parent to not parent please don’t be that parent
Jeremiah: Don’t be that guy or that girl or that gal
Mark: Or that teacher or that therapist or that councilor for crying out loud please for the love of all that is holy
let the kids be kids for freaking pete sake that’s all that comes
Jeremiah: That’s all were asking I think we raised a moment of clarity
Mark: Just let your kids be kids thank you for joining our
Jeremiah: That was brief we actually pulled that off as almost commando
