5. Sample Activity A Name of Activity: Hopscotch Age (years): 4 Activity Level: Medium, High Indoor/Outdoor Purpose: Strengthens your child’s bones. Materials: Sidewalk chalk or duck tape. Directions: Draw/tape a shape such as below on your sidewalk/carpet. Instruct your child to jump on certain numbers. For example: 1, then 2 & 4 at the same time, then 5 5, then 2 & 4 at the same time, then 1 1, 4, 5, 2 1, 3, 5, then 2 & 4 at the same time You can switch it up and use any combination of numbers as you go along. Adaptation: If your child can not move their legs, place them inside of square “3” and help them reach for “1”, “2”, “4”, & “5.” You could even provide them with bean bags and encourage them to throw them to the correct box. Sample Activity B Name of Activity:Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes Age (years): 3 & 4 Activity Level: Low, Medium, High Indoor/Outdoor Purpose: Not only will your child learn the different parts of their body, but they will also get to move around and act silly during this song! By speeding it up or slowing it down you will get your child’s heart rate pumping! And yours will be too by the end of this game! -- Musical awareness and rhythm, body parts Materials: Use your body! Directions: This is an action song, good for warming up. Start off slowly, saying the parts in the same order each time. Then as your child gains experience, vary the speed and order. While singing, touch both hands to the head, then the shoulders, then the knees, and then the toes, in time with the words. Then on the second verse, miss out the word "Head", but still do the actions. On the third verse, miss out the word "Shoulders", and so on. Finish with all the words back in, but singing as fast as possible! You can change it up by substituting different body parts.
