Biomechanics is concerned with the functions and structures of the musco-skeletal system and movements of biological systems. Medical products to be tested are prostheses, osteosynthetic implants, trauma products and orthopedic implants.
2. Standards:
ISO 7206-4:2002; ASTM F 1612-95
(determination of endurance properties of
stemmed femoral components, 5 million cycles,
15 Hz)
ISO 7206-8:1995
(specification for endurance of stemmed
femoral components with application of torsion)
simulates and measures the natural wear of the
joint in a shorter time for different body weights
and types/level of activities
allows designers to develop improved prostheses
with a reduced chance of implant failure for
patients of different weight and activity levels
10kN or 25kN servo-hydraulic machine, optionally
with temperature-conditioned water-bath

3. ISO 7206-9:1994
(method for determination of resistance to
torque of head fixation of stemmed femoral
components).
This test involves determining resistance to
torque between the femoral head and the
femoral stem.
Allows designers to develop improved fixation
between
the two components.
Zwick 20kN static biaxial testing machine with
500 Nm torque drive.
A static compressive preload is applied, then
the transverse torque is increased until the
head begins to rotate.
