When did Uzbekistan
become independent?
On 31 August 1991,
the Supreme Soviet of
the Uzbek SSR voted
to declare the country
independent from
the Soviet Union. The
next day was declared
a national holiday by
the Uzbek government,
and
became Independence
Day (Uzbekistan).
