 Worlds Biggest Achievement of Management.
Why Study Management …?
 Management is important for our society,
industry and government organizations.
 The importance of studying management can be
explained by looking at the way we interact with
organizations every day in our lives.
 Every product we use, every service we receive,
and every action we take is provided or affected
by organizations. These organizations require
managers.
What is Management…?
According to F.W Taylor,
“Management is an art of knowing what to do,
when to do and see that it is done in the best and
cheapest way”.
What is Management
continue…
According to Harold Koontz,
“Management is an art of getting things done
through and with the people in formally
organized groups. It is an art of creating an
environment in which people can perform
and individuals can co-operate towards
attainment of group goals”.
What is Management
continue…
In Simple Words,
 Management is the achievement of
organizational goals in an effective and
efficient manner through planning,
organizing, leading, and controlling
organizations resources.
Management Functions
(POLCA)
There are Four Management functions.
Which are …
1. Planning
2. Organizing
3. Leading
4. Controlling
5. And achievement (of organizational purpose)
Planning
Quotes on Planning…
“He who fails to plan, plans to
fail”
For example:
if you don't manage your time table well, you won't
finish your work and you'll fail.
Quotes on Planning…
continue…
“A good plan today is better than
a perfect plan tomorrow”
Quotes on Planning…
continue…
“Planning is bringing the future
into the present so that you can
do something about it now”
01. Planning
continue…
 According to Koontz & O’Donell,
“Planning is deciding in advance what to do, how
to do and who is to do it. Planning bridges the
gap between where we are to, where we want to
go. It makes possible things to occur which
would not otherwise occur”.,
01. Planning
Definition:
 It is the management function that involves the
process of defining goals, establishing strategies
for achieving those goals. And developing plans
to integrate and coordinate activities.
Organizing
Organizing is to create a system to put plans into
action.
02. Organizing
 It is the management function that involves the process
of determining what tasks are to be done. Who is to do
them, how the tasks are to be grouped, who reports to
whom, and where decisions are to be made.
 People within the organization are given work
assignments that contribute to the company’s goals.
Tasks are organized so that the output of each individual
contributes to the success of departments, which, in turn,
contributes to the success of divisions, which ultimately
contributes to the success of the organization..
Leading
03. Leading
 It is the management function that involves
motivating subordinates, influencing
individuals or teams as they work, selecting
the most effective communication channels, or
dealing in any way with employee behavior
issues.
 In simple words, inspiring and motivating
workers to work hard to achieve
organizational goals
Controlling
The Man
is
Controlling
his
subordinates
04. Controlling
 It is the management function that involves
monitoring actual performance, comparing
actual to standard and taking corrective
action, if necessary
 Controlling is an end function- A function
which comes once the performances are
made in conformities with plans.
These Management Functions are
being lead to ACHIEVING
organizational Purpose.
Worlds Biggest
Achievements
 The Egyptian pyramids , Great Wall of
China and Sydney Opera House are the
worlds biggest achievements of management
till today.
Lets have a look at these biggest projects…
Egyptian Pyramids
Egyptian Pyramids
 Without the service of cranes, bulldozers, or
tea/coffee breaks, the Egyptians constructed
mammoth structures of admirable exactness.
 Covers thirteen acres of earth and contains 2,300,000
(23 lacks) stone blocks.
 The stones were transported and set in place by slave
labor with accurate planning. The men who built the
enduring structures of ancient Egypt not only knew
how to use of human resources efficiently but also
knew how to manage 100,000 workers in a twenty-
year project.
Egyptian Pyramids
o The pyramids are a particularly interesting
example. The construction of a single pyramid
occupied more than 100,000 workers for 20 years.
o Who told each worker what to do?
o Who ensured that there would be enough stones
at the site to keep workers busy?
The answer to such questions is “MANAGERS”
Egyptian Pyramids

 The height of China Wall is from 7 to 37 feet
 The whole China wall is made by hands.
Working as united for 956 years, there should be
some purposes due to which people worked for a
long time.
