What is Pixel Packet Manipulation (PPM)?
1. What is it and do you need to be worried?

3. What is Pixel Packet Manipulation (PPM)?
— An unproven theory. But not a conspiracy theory!
— The idea that packets (groups) of pixels can be manipulated by political
advertisers to artificially stimulate thoughts among the recipients and/or induce
certain brain wave patterns.
— PPM is thought to work primarily by means of ‘light attacks’ in which
advertisers overlay banner advertisements with color schemes designed to
confuse and manipulate voters.

4. What Does a PPM Attack Look Like?
- This is not a real banner from the Clinton campaign but demonstrates how
green font overlayed on a blue background could be used to confuse viewers
- Green pixels bring us back to homeostasis (centerdness). Blue pixels induce
vigilance.
- See the effect it creates? Confusion! And you want to click on the banner!

5. How Do Readers React to Light Attacks?

- Signature reverse triangle pattern seen on
heatmap tracking.
- Curiosity triggers an upward movement
(one); viewer moves across advert as they
sequence it (two, lateral phase) and then
head down the page as they are confused
and repelled by the dissonance the
contradictory colors cause.
- Second bite viewing typically follows 20
to 30 seconds after the initial banner
display.
6. Who Might Be Using PPM And Light Attacks?
- Political campaign managers → Draw viewers to candidate ads
- Intelligence agencies → Spread mass messaging
- Cybercriminals → Draw people into clicking on online scams
- Online scammers → Lead people into malware and phishing URLs

7. PPM Exploits Different Colors’ Effects on the Brain!
- Pixels can only exist in three primary colors but can be combined to create thousands of
true colors
- Pixel Packet Amplifier (PPAs) are rogue hardware implants that can be used to artifically
increase pre-arranged patterns that are going to be displayed in banner advertising.
- But collusion between manufactures, advertisers, and campaign managers is a must!
- Different colors have different effects on the psyche. Red stimulates. Blue and green calm.
Dark blue is associated with night.

8. PPM Can Alter Brain Waves!

- PPM designers merely have to identify a target brain frequency (e.g.
Delta, below 3 Hz) and then create the right set of pixels in a banner with
foreground/background color combinations that will arouse and amplify
that automatic neural response.
- E.g. a Trump campaign could use red font on an orange background
along with the message “We Need To Keep Them Out” in a banner ad
designed to arouse the passion of viewers and steer them to advocate
for his proposed wall with Mexico
- PPM attacks have been observed all over the world! Light attack authors
are believed to be collaborating on dark web forums accessed primarily
via the TOR browser!
9. What can we do to stop this?
- Webmasters → install heatmap analytics.
- Concerned web browsers → consider installing ad blockers.
- The community at large → push our legislators to make it illegal for political
advertisers to use pixel manipulation to alter our consciousness by exploiting
our innate biology!
