As with all growing economies they need partners to develop key
sectors of those growing economies. Of particular interest are:
□ Basic infrastructure – energy and logistics being key
□ Agriculture
□ Industrialisation

As is the case in all economic partnerships true success requires a serious
approach. So:
Don’t take for granted the information on Africa
Do some homework
Find reliable partners
In many cases the institutional environment will be unfamiliar but it should not
be a deterrent
Trying short cuts to the top and using bad practices will be short term and
messy – conduct your business and partnerships as best practice

Europe is a major market and South Africa needs to consolidate and
expand its links with Europe and Central Europe
As in Africa so in Europe – South Africa needs partners to expand into Europe
Italy offers such a partnership with its many unique and world class capacities

So there is real scope for a partnership between South Africa and Italy:
They have mutually compatible strengths
South Africa is not a magic key to Africa but it does provide many experienced
operators in Africa
Italy is not a magic key to Europe but it is a major European economy
Businesses in both economies need to get to know each other better
